The Lovestitch Apron Festival

We are delighted to present the inaugural Lovestitch Apron Festival, 14th - 18th July 2015, a week of fun and frivolity with events and activities for everyone, where we can share our love of aprons while raising funds for Wirral Hospice, St John's.

The celebrations will centre around our apron competition and we have devised a number of individual categories, each offering the opportunity to win a prize, as well as an overall ‘best in show’ prize-winner. We know from the complimentary comments we have received that many of you have enjoyed seeing the ever-changing array of aprons worn by our staff and so we hope that you will join in the fun by sewing your own apron. There is no restriction on materials to be used or style – all we ask is that the apron is fully functional and fit for purpose. Let your imagination and creativity run wild! (Please see entry form for full details.)

The festival opens on the evening of Tuesday 14th July with our ‘Apron Strings’ event where everyone is invited to turn up in an apron representing a part of their life, whether a ‘workplace’ or a household apron, and share their stories over a cuppa and a slice of cake. (This will also be the first opportunity to catch a glimpse of our apron competition entries, lovingly displayed in all their glory in our upstairs workshop!)
What does ‘apron’ mean to you? You are welcome to answer this question by recording either a memory involving an apron or your opinion of aprons on a postcard, (available in the shop), or by sharing a photo of yourself or a loved one in a favourite pinny and adding it to our ‘Apron Memories’ pinboard. Whilst you are doing this, why not pop upstairs to the apron exhibition? As well as displaying a range of aprons, vintage and modern, and explaining the history of the apron, our competition entries will be on view and you will be able to vote for your personal favourite! (Voting ends at 5pm on Friday 17th July ahead of the prize giving ceremony on Saturday 18th July.)

Junior apronistas have not been forgotten – not only are there separate categories in the main apron competition for primary and secondary school age groups, there is also a quiz running all week. Just hand your completed activity sheet in at Lovestitch for the chance of a prize.
Attention butchers, bakers and candlestick makers: we want to promote a true community spirit with our festival and are hoping that other Heswall businesses will offer their support by photographing the staff in their aprons and posting to Facebook, Twitter, Instagram or our blog. Use the hashtag #lovestitchapron

Our motto is ‘wear your pinny with pride’, so during the course of the week, Lovestitch staff will be out and about, in shops and in the street, awarding spot prizes to anyone we consider fully deserving of this accolade.
Fellow apronistas, we know that your stitchin’ fingers will be itchin’ and a-twitchin’ in readiness and that we can rely on you to help us realise our vision of celebrating the humble apron whilst raising funds for a worthy cause. So, here’s to a great success!
Don’t forget, if you are looking for inspiration or are new to sewing, there is a Retro Apron workshop on Saturday 20th June from 10.30am – 4pm. Call 0151 345 6738

Patchwork photo quilt Competition #LoveStitchHeswall

We have started up a fun competition, primarily on Instagram, but if you don't have that and want to join in with our competition to win some Liberty Fabric fat quarters then you can post to our facebook page and we will transfer the image to Instagram for you.

Heres the idea ....

step one ; make a mixed media collage with, preferably, a fabric theme and background.  Find some objects that you feel work with the background and place them pleasingly.

step two; make it into a square shape photo, on your phone is fine.

step three, post the photo with the hashtag #lovestitchheswall and tag us @lovestitchheswall on Instagram.

If you can't post onto Instagram then post onto the Love Stitch Facebook page by clicking this link  we will share your photo on Instagram for you and at the end of June we will pick a winner.  The lucky winner will receive a package of Liberty Fabric fat quarters.

There may be some extra gifts to special friends of Love Stitch, so if we see you sharing with your friends and bringing along more people to play, then there will be a reward for that too !

Join with us in our love of fabric ..... everyone needs a stash !
